Like so many of the new cruise ships on our list, Viking Vela is slated to be its cruise line’s largest cruise ship yet. The 10th Viking Cruises ship, Viking Vela is an adults-only vessel that channels the same Viking styles and class that you can find on all its sister ships. The Mediterranean will have the most new ships added to its waters with the new class of 2024, with 5 ships being sent to the popular destination. The ship will have a general theme of adventure too, so expect that to be reflected in the activities and especially the shows onboard. While we know the plans for Resilient Lady when it comes to itineraries, we’re still waiting for confirmation on Brilliant Lady’s deployment, but she’s sure to bring a touch of glamour to whichever ocean or sea she sails on. While it meant disappointment for a number of passengers already booked, it also means a few more months to get hyped about this incredible new ship. We also know that she’s the first Royal Caribbean ship designed to be powered by LNG fuel, which is much more environmentally friendly than traditional fuels with fewer harmful emissions. Icon of the Seas became the biggest ship in the world when she set sail on January 27, 2024, from her homeport of Miami. The Cabana stateroom boasts a private cabana and balcony, allowing you to relish the outdoors while preserving your privacy.
American Liberty
Yes, the ship is on the smaller side, but it just proves that, sometimes, great things come in tiny packages. Many of the ship’s offerings are geared toward families, but adults-only spaces are also plentiful. A new immersive restaurant, centered around the concept of being on a train, is being developed. What's also unique for the ship is that it will focus on short three- and four-day itineraries from its Port Canaveral homeport -- meaning you'll never be able to see it all in one trip.
Details about the vessel’s new inaugural season, however, haven’t been announced by the company yet. Even though Queen Anne is technically a cruise ship, her luxurious venues and unique events will be reminiscent of the days in which ocean liners dominated sea travel. It’s not just about sizing up, but this ship will also help to modernise the fleet for TUI, and ensure it joins other cruise lines in switching to a fuel that is better for the planet. Like its sister, its interiors are filled with a far broader array of suites than you'd find on earlier Carnival ships. New features include two ocean-themed zones with new bar and dining options — including an underwater-themed bar adorned with octopus arms that will serve drinks. An evolution of the class of ships that first debuted more than a decade ago, the line says the signature Oasis Class experience will be combined with brand-new thrills for passengers of all ages. Utopia will boast some impressive numbers, including eight neighborhoods, 20 types of accommodations, including the new Solarium Suites, and more than 20 dining venues. New eateries include The Spare Tire, a pool-side food truck serving light bites, but the most anticipated will be the new Royal Railway - Utopia Station, where a destination-focused dinner will be served onboard an authentic train dining car.
Mediterranean
Afternoon teas and black-tie events in the elegant Queens Room venue add a touch of sophistication. At the same time, the services of white-gloved bellhops make boarding a regal affair. Celebrity Ascent is currently cruising from Port Everglades until April 2024, when the ship will head to Europe in the summer and fall. As soon as guests step aboard, they’ll be delighted by the Grand Hall, the three-story atrium that takes inspiration from the story of Disney’s Aladdin, with its rich tapestry of colors, geometric motifs and gold accents everywhere one looks. There’s also a new milkshake bar, new Mediterranean eatery, and new sushi and street food window (which will also appear on Royal Caribbean’s later 2024 ship, Utopia of the Seas). Options will include the line's first upscale Thai restaurant and a dedicated plant-based venue.
But they're far from being the only major new cruise vessels arriving during the next 12 months. When it debuts in March 2022, the ship will offer sailings from Shanghai to Japan, before moving on to Hong Kong in November, for sailings around Vietnam, South Korea, China and Japan for the winter season. The line claims the ship will be the most spacious cruise ship at sea, for starters; they also note that the ship will offer the highest staff level of any other new ship, as well as the highest number of suite categories available at sea. The ship will offer Caribbean sailings, including Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries departing from Miami, as well as limited transatlantic options. A sister ship to the other highly-anticipated Carnival ship, Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration will feature a lot of the same amenities and entertainment options.
It will also offer new entertainment not previously seen on past ships, alongside spacious wellness areas. Icon of the Seas isn’t the only Royal Caribbean ship slated to hit the waters in 2024. Another new cruise ship from the cruise line, Utopia of the Seas is in a different class than Icon of the Seas, and it’s not going to be as large — but it is still pretty amazing (and what else would you expect from Royal Caribbean?). Expect lots of natural light, suites that offer 270-degree views, eight restaurants, and more.
